Since it was announced that Starfield is finally getting a significant update, I figured it was time to revisit a project I had attempted back when Starfield was initially launched: an explorer’s log.
At the time of launch, there was a multitude of solutions that cropped up aiming to help fellow Starfield captains. Some were actual paper logs you could purchase on Amazon, others were Google Sheets spreadsheets. Some were logs, some were encyclopedia apps.
Although I’m not against spreadsheets, I wanted something a bit more sophisticated. At the time, because of life in general, I never had the time to dive into it.
However, all of that has changed with the advent of AI. This past week I decided to revisit this idea with the help of Claude and OpenAI’s Codex. Within hours I had a working prototype that used localstorage to save data while referencing photos on my computer for screenshots I wanted to include in my notes.
It was at this point I felt that maybe, just maybe, this time I would actually be able to create what I wanted to have initially.
At this point, the Starfield Explorer’s Log is actually becoming fairly complex. We have a system’s section where the systems we visit can be saved.

There’s a planets page where we can further define the planets we’re finding.
Naturally there’s a page for ships and their stats.
Then add inventory items you feel are worth tracking, persons and their roles in your game, points of interest and more.
In the end, the goal I set for myself was to create something I could create that would help me keep track of my explorations. I suppose at this point it’s fair to call this vibe coding. But, in the end I’m getting what I’m looking for. Right now I’m looking for the best way to make this available to a wider audience here through Ko-Fi, probably through an Electron installer…or if someone has a better suggestion (I know Electron apps tend to be bloated).
Anyway, regardless, I plan on spending some more time exploring the current iteration of Starfield before the update launches and refine as I go.
Let me know what you think!
